Katie Bouman

Birth: May 9, 1989

Major Academic Events:At the University of Michigan, she studied electrical engineering and graduated with honors in 2011. At MIT, she graduated master’s and doctoral degrees in electrical engineering and computer science in 2017.

Contributions to Computer Science:She lead the development of an algorithm that could image black holes using computers. This technology is known as Continuous High-resolution Image Reconstruction using Patch priors (CHIRP). With the Event Horizon Telescope, she was a part team that took the first photograph of a black hole.
