Charles Babbage

Birth: December 26, 1791

Death: October 18, 1871

Major Academic Events: He attended Trinity College, Cambridge starting 1811. He was elected as a Fellow of The Royal Society of London in 1816 and to the Lucian Chair of mathematics at Cambridge from 1828 to 1839.

Contributions to Computer Science: He conceived the idea for the Analytical Engine which involved many of the concepts of basic modern day computer principals. However, he was never able to complete his designs. He also co-founded the Analytical Society to improve England's math system by looking at developments in other European countriesand helped found the Royal Astronomical and Statistical Society in 1820 and 1834.
